The ARMOR Lab welcomes our newest members: Materials Science & Engineering Ph.D. student, Yujin Park, who received her M.S. from Pusan National University (South Korea), as well as Structural Engineering M.S. students, Yun-An Lin, who received her B.S. from National Chiao Tung University, and Matthew Gerdes, who received his B.S. from CSU Northridge. Welcome Yujin, Ann, and Matt!

Ph.D. Candidate Bo Mi Lee was awarded with the ASME Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures & Intelligent Systems (ASME) Best Symposium Paper in Structural Health Monitoring for her work on Nanocomposite Electrical Time-Domain Reflectometry. Congratulations Bo Mi!

Congratulations to M.S. student Gianmarco Vella who was selected as a Gordon Engineering Leadership Program Scholar. Over a one year period, Scholars learn the principles, theory, attitudes and skill sets required to be an engineering leader through a progressive education, training and practice program.

Ph.D. Candidate Long Wang participated in the 2018 Asian-Pacific-Euro Summer School (APESS) on Smart Structures Technology and was awarded the Best Presenter Award during the final competition. APESS provides lectures and hands-on experience on structural dynamics and control, smart structures technology, and structural health monitoring.

Prof. Ken Loh is honored with the 2018 Structural Health Monitoring Person-of-the-Year Award. This award was announced at the European Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring (Manchester, UK). The award states that the "Person-of-the-Year should have made an outstanding contribution to the field of SHM that will benefit society."

Prof. Ken Loh is promoted to Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Structural Engineering at UC San Diego.

June 28 to July 1, 2018

Ph.D. Candidates Sumit Gupta and Long Wang, along with Prof. Ken Loh, participated in the inaugural Innovation Fair as part of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Naval Exercise in Honolulu, HI. They showcased their Office of Naval Research projects and each hosted a booth with live demonstrations of new technologies for warfighter protection.
